Event Date and Location

  • The 2011 Annual Professional Development Day is on October 20, 2011 in Calgary, Alberta
  • Khanoff Centre, Suite 200, 1202 Centre Street S.E.

Target Audience

Learners and participants in Calgary IIBA® Chapter professional development events are primarily business analysts who want to boost their performance and increase the value of the services they provide to their clients. They are dedicated business analysts or those who do buiness analysis as part of their role.

Learners have a wide range of experience and capability and include those who:

  • Are novice part-time practitioners to those with more than 15 years of experience in the profession
  • Are and are not IIBA® Members and Calgary IIBA® Chapter Members
  • Are and are not CBAP® or CCBA™ professionals
  • Are and are not familiar with IIBA® Business Analysis Body of Knowledge® (BABOK®)

Professional Development Day Session Size

  • Group size typically ranges from 10 –25 participants per session

Professional Development Day Content and Workshop Themes

Hands-on interactive learning workshops include:

  • Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) Distilled:  In this session we discuss and demonstrate how to model business processes with the industry standard Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN).  After reviewing the basics of the notation, attendees will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned by modeling an example business process.   • Creating a Compelling Business Case: In this workshop, participants will not only learn and practice developing a compelling business case using a case study but also how to defend their business case. Procept Associates Ltd.: Facilitator Sola Oduko CEng, ISP, PMP.
  • Eight Problem Analysis Techniques: As one of the three key skills every business analyst should possess, this workshop will provide participants the skills to perform effective problem analysis for every type of business problem. Procept Associates Ltd.: Facilitator Sola Oduko CEng, ISP, PMP
  • Write a Really Great Use Case in Under an Hour: We will simulate a workshop to develop a use case, facilitated by a business analyst, with role play participation from attendees as SME's and technical solution providers. ESI Canada: Facilitator Phil Vincent CBAP, PMP, CSM, MSc
  • How to Become the Agile Analyst: What exactly do BAs do in agile development? This workshop will look at agile business analysis from the perspective of the activities that make up requirements management and solicitation, comparing traditional with agile analysis.   • Agile Farming: Growing and Managing an Agile Backlog: This fun and interactive session will guide participants from envision through to a prioritized backlog of User Stories. Quadrus Development Inc.: Facilitators Michael McCullough PMP, CSM, MCT

Post Event Reception

A post-event mix-and-mingle event will be held after the conclusion of the Professional Development Day activities.

Professional Development Day Participant Registration

Online registration is open. Participants immediately get a receipt and confirmation sent to their email address at the time of online registration.

  • Participants can take advantage of Early Bird and Calgary IIBA® Chapter membership discounts
  • Food, beverages, a binder with cover and tabs (no content), and a name tag are included in the price
  • Participants will get a reminder one week prior to the Professional Development Day
  • Participants will get logon information and password to download and print the workshop material approximately one week prior to the Professional Development Day
  • Participants will be sent any other instructions and particulars approximately one week prior to the Professional Development Day

Transfer and Refund Policy
